The fourth annual Lee-Strand sponsored ‘Kingdom Come 10 Mile and 5k Road Race’ will be launched forth onto the streets of the town and the roads around it on Sunday morning.
Going on last year’s entry of over 500 athletes and runners of various abilities, the event is set to bring mass participation road running to the streets of Castleisland.
Race organisers stress that the event is open to all, regardless of ability. The event has attracted some top runners in the past and this year will be no different with some of Ireland’s leading athletes having marked the date on their busy calendars.

Personal Goals

“The main body of participants will be those with their own personal goals, with many taking on either the 5k or 10 miles for the first time. Up to 150+ people have been taking to the track for the successful Couch-to-5k programme in preparation for the event, with another group training to take on the 10 miles,” said An Riocht manager, Kate McSweeney.
The first 300 finishers in the 10 mile event will receive a souvenir sports bag and all finishers will receive the all-important official race medal to start, or indeed add to, their collection. ”An Ríocht AC is delighted to announce that Lee Strand has come on board as sponsors for the fourth consecutive running of the event. Their dedication to athletics in the area has been crucial to the continued success of this flagship event,” said Ms. McSweeney.
