The death has occurred of Mary Murphy, Close, Castleisland.

Mary was a well-know figure in Castleisland and, up to recently, walked daily from her home in Close into town for her shopping.

She had a word for everyone she met and would join in any bit of banter or devilment that was going in the course of her travels. She wouldn’t spare anyone who dared to rise her and they did –  especially when the late Tom Wren was in charge of the daily gatherings at Molly’s Corner.

“Mitchell and myself are going down to the chapel now to see if they’d marry us and you have our wedding photograph already,” said Mary on the morning I took the picture of the two of them here.

Mary died suddenly at home on Sunday. May God be good to her.

Reposing at Tangney’s Funeral Home Castleisland on this Tuesday evening from 5pm to 7pm followed by removal to Castleisland Parish Church. Requiem Mass on Wednesday at 11am. Burial afterwards in Kilbanivane Cemetery Castleisland . May She Rest In Peace .
