Desmonds 1-07 Dr.Crokes 2-23

For a second week in row Desmonds played a team wearing the famous black and amber jerseys. This time it was Dr.Crokes of Killarney visiting to play the home side in round nine of the Credit Union Co.League.

By Club PRO, Gerdie Murphy

Desmonds got their first score of the game from a Steven Bartlett free with 26 minutes gone in the opening half.

This was followed by a great score from Micheal Walsh. These were the home side’s only points of the first half as Dr.Crokes clocked up a score of 1-15 and that tells its own story.

The Killarney club just attacked in waves to make up for their league game loss last weekend to Glenbeigh-Glencar.

Point after Point

Captain Daithi Casey took this mission seriously and conducted his team like the great Ennio Morricone. They kicked point after point with Kieran O’Leary, Bryan O’Shea, Tony Brosnan, Chris Brady and a goal from corner back Gavin White which saw them go in well and truly in front at half time.

With Owen Murphy from Desmonds also going off injured in the 13 minute this added to the long list of now injured Desmonds players. This didn’t help Desmonds on this lovely summers evening.

Credit must be given to the home side as they battled hard in the second half but there was were too many loose ends throughout game.

This was to see Dr. Crokes carry on where they left off in the first half with points from: Jason Lyne, Chris Brady, Daithi Casey and Kieran O’Leary. This gave them a lead of 1-18 to 0-3 points with 16 minutes gone in the second half.

Goal from Play

Desmonds added two more points from the boot of Steven Bartlett and we saw Tadhg Walsh get Desmonds only goal of the game from play.

This was followed by a goal for Crokes by Cillian Fitzgerald. The visitors were now pulling all the strings and they tagged on more points from play.

However, Desmonds captain, Kieran Brennan and Graham O’Connor scored a point each to leave the score board read: Desmonds 1:07 to Dr.Crokes. 2:23 at full time.

If there was a ray of sunshine on this game, it was to good see so many young players getting game time. David Lynch, Conor O’Shea, Tadhg Walsh, Danny Browne and Ciaran Breen all getting a taste of life in the senior ranks.
