Cordal were on top at half time with seven points to Tousist’s five – and it was all to play for in the second half. Donal McCarthy kept Cordal’s lead going with a point in the fourth minute. Tousist made their move and quickly equalised.

Playing Catch-Up

Philip O’Connor had Cordal in the lead again soon later when he scored a point in the 16th minute. Unfortunately, Cordal were playing catch up after the 17th minute when a goal was scored for Tousist by Aaron Morris.

Cordal almost equalised in the last minutes of normal time after crucial points by Padraig O’Connell and Sean Óg Ó Ciardubháin had Cordal only one point down.

Tousist’s late goal would prove fatal and it left Cordal with little time to turn things around. Cordal were starting to lose ground in extra time and by the time the referee blew the whistle it was too late. Full time left Cordal down by four points with 0-11 to Tousist’s 1-12 but this was certainly a great game played by two strong teams. Next up for Cordal seniors is Round 10 of the Division Five Senior Football County League.

East Kerry League : Cordal/Scart V Spa

Cordal Scart played Spa in Spa as part of the East Kerry League.

Cordal/Scart had beaten Spa in their last clash but with valuable players missing for this game things would be quite different to their last meeting. Playing at thirteen-a-side, Spa were first to register a score with Eoin Carroll taking the first point of the day seconds into the match.

Valuable Asset

Soon later an injury brought Spa’s Michael Kearney off the pitch his replacement Cian Fahy would prove a valuable asset. Dion Marcus was quick to avenge their lost player and scored a goal and a point in the seventh and 13th minutes.

Cordal/Scart clocked in their first score when Jack Walsh scored a point in the 15th minute. David Spillane was next to score for Spa he sent the ball over the bar after being awarded a 45. Niall McCarthy showed great skill for Spa in the 25th and 26th minutes by clocking up two points for his side.

Florence McCarthy scored a point for Cordal/Scart in the 29th minute. Dion Marcus scored another point for Spa – and this ended the half.

Cordal/Scart were seven points down at half-time with 0-02 to Spa’s 1-06.

Opening Moments

The second half saw Spa double their score. Kieran Enright made the first score of the half for Cordal/Scart in the opening moments.

Dion Marcus, Cian Fahy and Niall Moynihan scored a relay of three points between them in the sixth, seventh and eighth minutes of the half.

Cian Fahy scored a point again in the ninth minute. Cordal/Scart found it’s way to the other side of the field in the 11th minute with Patrick ‘Yank’ O’Connor booting the ball over the bar. T.J O’Connor scored a point for Cordal/Scart two minutes later and, in the 18th minute, he repeated the process.

Cordal/Scart were on the defence for the rest of the half trying to keep Spa’s scorers: Niall McCarthy, Cian Fahy, David Spillane, Joe Stack and Dion Marcus away from the Cordal net.

Dominant Force

The last quarter proved that Spa was the dominant force. Sean Walsh was Cordal/Scart’s last scorer scoring a point before the whistle was blown.

Cordal/Scart’s incomplete team was no match for Spa’s might on the day and the change in fortune for Cordal/Scart against Spa this time round reflected this.

Full time saw Cordal/Scart eleven points down with 0-07 to Spa’s 1-15. Strong defending from Jason Cronin and the Cordal/Scart backs prevented further goals from being scored.
