Council Warnning of Icy Road Conditions

Kerry County Council is asking motorists to avoid the Conor Pass in West Kerry following heavy snowfalls and icy conditions.

There has been snow at the county bounds on the N22 and driving conditions there are poor. In all parts of the county, motorists are asked to drive with care and allow plenty of time for journeys this evening and throughout Friday. Kerry County Council crews are salting main routes however motorists should always exercise caution and drive with care.

The council is monitoring the situation closely and will provide updates on social media and through the media generally.

Today
Fairly widespread wintry showers this evening turning increasingly to sleet and snow. Accumulations of snow are expected in places, particularly over high ground. There is also the risk of thunder and lightning near Atlantic coasts. Feeling very cold in the fresh to strong west or northwesterly winds.

Tonight
Further wintry showers tonight, some heavy and possibly thundery, with further accumulations of snow expected. The wintry showers will become largely confined to western parts later in the night with good clear periods developing in the east. A cold, frosty night and turning icy in places. Temperatures will be around freezing or a little below all night, in a fresh northwest wind.

Tomorrow
Friday will be cold and blustery, with bright spells and scattered showers. Some of the showers will be wintry, especially in the morning. Top afternoon temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees, highest in coastal fringes. Fresh northwesterly winds.
