After breaking with its traditional Kilbanivane / Churchtown route last year, the annual Good Friday Hospice Walk is introducing a new starting point again this year.

Off street, off road starting points for events like this are now all the go on health and safety grounds.

Away from Passing Traffic

Grounds where cars can be parked and people can organise away from passing traffic are being greatly favoured.

So it is with the Good Friday walk. This year’s walk will start and finish in the Library / Old Railway Car Park at the bottom of the town.

“The reason for this is that the very generous people at Nana Bea’s have kindly offered to provide tea and scones for participants after the event,” explained branch spokesperson, Liz Galwey.

Up Thorough the Town

“Walkers are being asked to gather in the library car park for an 11am start, they will walk up through the town heading out towards Tullig and around the Black Road then branch off left at Garvey’s and up through Barrack Street and back through the car park to the starting point.

“The walk is one of the major fundraisers for the society each year. Members of the Castleisland fundraising branch urge you to come out and walk or run if you prefer on Friday, March 30th.

Sponsorship Cards

“Sponsorship cards are available at Jack Shanahan’s Haven Pharmacy and Philip Horan’s Service Station.

“But if people would prefer not to seek sponsorship they can give a personal donation on the day. All funds raised in Kerry for Hospice remain in Kerry and so all contributions will go directly towards the running cost of the in- patient unit which opened at the end of last year,” said Ms. Galwey.
