Summer Holidays Yield Double Euro Gold for Boxer Ava

Ava Fitzmaurice back at Castleisland Community College with her double gold Italian summer medals.

As students drifted back to school recently after a brilliant, sunny summer holiday period, one of the most asked questions is ‘ What did you you during the holidays.’

Teachers at Castleisland Community College discovered that one of their own students, Ava Fitzmaurice, traveled to Italy with an Irish team to a boxing camp.

Two Gold Medals

While there she won two European gold medals while boxing in a tournament at the camp.

Ava, a member of the Sliabh Luachra Boxing Club represented her country in Catania, Italy and won her gold medals in the U-14 category.

Representing Ireland

She was chosen to represent Ireland after being spotted boxing in a competition in Dublin during the summer.

At the end of April Ava won an All-Ireland title in the Girl 3 53kg category in the finals at the National Stadium in Dublin.

A dedicated boxer who trains three nights a week in the gym, she also illustrates her commitment with further training at home.

Immersed in School Sports

Ava is a student of Castleisland Community College and is immersed in school sports.

She played on the winning senior girls’ football team that won the Comórtas Chiarraí Football final in May.

She also won two gold medals at the Kerry School Athletics and another gold at Munsterl level.
