Presentation Secondary School Castleisland has a proud tradition of education in Castleisland.

While witnessing many changes and modernisations over the years, at its core are still its values of care, respect, academic excellence and encouragement, ensuring each individual student reaches her full potential in a safe and caring environment.

New Methodologies and Up-skilling

Staff strive for excellence and are constantly evaluating their practices, using new methodologies and up-skilling to ensure that Pres students have the best all round education possible.

All at Presentation Castleisland are very proud that several of its staff members have received national recognition in their subject areas.

The school prides itself in the academic success of all its students.

Quality of The Education

The Leaving Certificate results of its students each year testify to the quality of the education received at the school.

The Leaving Certificate class of 2020 was no exception. In fact, the results of 2020 surpassed those of 2019 with 61% of the class achieving 400 points, 16% receiving 500 points and one student actually receiving a maximum 625 points.

In the Leaving Certificate 2019, one student received the highest mark in Ireland in Higher Level Geography.

Progressing to Third level

Presentation Castleisland is in the top 14% of schools whose students progress to third level. In 2019 and 2020, 100% of all its students progressed to third level.

The school is one of a few in Ireland to introduce Leaving Certificate Computer Science as a new subject in this academic year and one of the few schools in Kerry to offer Religious Education as an examination subject.

All students are offered the opportunity to study Music to Leaving Certificate.

Variety of Extracurricular Activities

Lunchtime and after school clubs cater for a wide variety of interests among the student body.

They include: Art; Chess; Debating; Enterprise and Walking clubs to name but a few.

The school choir has gained quite a following over the past few years and released its first CD last year.

Presentation Castleisland is recognised as a leading school for enterprise and the students are in the top 2% of achievers for Enterprise in Ireland.

The school has won two national titles for the last three years in a row and its business teacher has been recognised as Entrepreneurial Educator of the year. Similarly, its mathematics teachers have been recognised at national level.

Sport Highly Valued

Basketball is a highly valued and successful sport in the school. Teams compete at first year, second year, U-14, U-16 and U-19 levels and have won 27 All Ireland titles over the years.

In 2019, the first year basketball team secured the title of Ireland’s ‘Best ‘A’ Schools Basketball Team.’

With this prestigious title came the invitation to attend the International Schools’ Federation (ISF) Basketball Championships in Zadar, Croatia as Ireland’s representatives.

Many other sporting pursuits are also enjoyed both competitively and non-competitively such as football, camogie, badminton, athletics and modern dance.

Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths

Presentation Castleisland is the only secondary school in Kerry to be chosen as a beacon school to demonstrate the innovative use of digital technologies in teaching, learning and assessment, through clusters of schools collaborating on a specific STEM project.

Significant investment and resources have been deployed to support the purchase of this technology.

Blended / Online Learning

The school uses Microsoft 365 as a digital tool during the school day and to assist blended and remote learning.

Each student’s account gives them access to a suite of Microsoft products whether they are at home or at school.

They also receive training on how to use the technology to ensure that they can complete any tasks they need to online.
