Curranes National School was presented with a special flag by Athletics Ireland this week in recognition of its commitment to The Daily Mile.

The school has Active School status and is currently working towards its second Active School Flag.

School Engaged in Activity

The Daily Mile is one of the activities that the school engages in as part of the Active School Flag Initiative.

Athletics Ireland designated Thursday, December 10th as Raise a Flag Day for the Daily Mile and pupils at Curranes N.S. celebrated their involvement in the activity on this day.

A Social Physical Activity

The Daily Mile is a social physical activity. Children run or jog with their classmates, at their own pace, for 15 minutes,” Curranes National School Principal Emer Nelligan explained.

The activity improves fitness and encourages children to be aware of the importance of exercise for their health.

It is fully inclusive. Every child, whatever their circumstances, age or ability succeeds at The Daily Mile,” said Ms. Nelligan.
