Today’s announcement of a €2.6 million Housing Adaptation Grant Fund for Kerry County Council has been welcomed by politicians of almost every hue.
Deputy Government Chief Whip, Brendan Griffin TD was first with the news followed by Minister for Education, Norma Foley, TD and, close on their heels, by Cllr. Charlie Farrelly, Independent.
The announcement of €2,637,640 will support home adaptations for older people and those with a disability and people with mobility issues across the county.
The grant is 80% exchequer funded with 20% funding from the relevant local authority.
Grants of up to €30,000 are available to assist people with a disability in carrying out necessary works to make a house more suitable for their needs, up to €8,000 to assist older people to have necessary repairs or improvements carried out and up to €6,000 for mobility aids.
